Job Purpose
The Tractor Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of tractors and attached farm machinery to support land preparation, planting, harvesting, transportation, and general farm operations, while ensuring proper maintenance and adherence to safety standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Tractor Operation
- Operate tractors and related agricultural machinery for activities such as ploughing, harrowing, planting, spraying, harvesting, and transportation of farm produce or inputs.
- Adjust tractor implements appropriately based on soil conditions, crop requirements, and assigned tasks.
- Ensure efficient fuel usage and proper handling of machinery during operations.
2. Equipment Care & Maintenance
- Conduct daily pre-operation and post-operation checks (fuel, oil, water, tyres, brakes, lights, etc.).
- Perform basic routine maintenance such as cleaning, greasing, tightening loose parts, and reporting faults promptly.
- Keep accurate records of tractor usage, fuel consumption, and minor repairs.
3. Safety & Compliance
- Operate machinery in compliance with safety guidelines, company policies, and manufacturer instructions.
- Ensure safe working practices to protect self, other workers, crops, livestock, and equipment.
- Report accidents, near-misses, or mechanical issues immediately to the supervisor.
4. Field & Operational Support
- Support field teams during peak seasons and special operations as assigned.
- Assist in loading and offloading farm inputs, equipment, or produce when required.
- Follow daily work schedules and instructions from the supervisor.
5. Reporting & Accountability
- Maintain a logbook for tractor movements, work done, and hours operated.
- Report progress, challenges, and equipment status to the supervisor regularly.
- Take responsibility for assigned equipment and tools.
6. And any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications (Qualifications & Experience)
- Certificate or training in tractor operation, agricultural mechanics, or a related field.
- Valid tractor or heavy machinery operation permit.
Experience
- At least 2 years’ experience operating tractors or similar agricultural machinery.
- Experience working on a farm, agribusiness, or agricultural project is an added advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong practical knowledge of tractor operation and farm implements.
- Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Good understanding of farm safety practices.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Physically fit and able to work long hours during peak farming seasons.
- Honest, reliable, and responsible with equipment.

Working Conditions
- Outdoor field-based work under varying weather conditions.
- May require extended working hours during peak agricultural seasons.
- Exposure to dust, noise, and farm machinery.
